Friday Notes

Hello Second Grade Families!

This was an exciting and busy week! Today we had a fun-filled MAP Testing Pep Rally! We cheered on our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade friends who will start the MAP test next week. We also had a suprise visit from Fred Bird and two LHS baseball players! Check out the photos below of our assembly!

In reading we have continuted to discuss author's purpose. We have completed our research on animals and finished typing our books this week. We also started exploring poetry during our writing time.  We will continue to read and write poetry throughout the month of April. In math we wrapped up a week of studying congruent figures and symmetry. We have created things that are symmetical and discussed out to slide, flip, and turn figures. In Science, we have start our unit on Earth's Surface. Towards the end of this unit we have two fun activities that students will get to participate in!

1.) Pet Rocks: Students can bring in a rock to decorate as their pet rock. They have been told to start looking for a rock that is smaller than their hand, but big enough to decorate. They will get a paper next week describing in more detail what to bring to school.

2.) Dino Dig: We will be creating dinosaur fossils using a recipe that requires coffee grounds. If you are a coffee drinking family, please send your used coffee grounds to school! We will mix it with other ingredients to create a fossil! Thank you to the Jones Family for starting us off with our supply of coffee grounds!

A few important notes!!
