Happy Friday Second Grade Families!
Our first two days together went great! This class is such a wonderful group of eager learners!
Just a few friendly reminders...
If you have not yet turned in your permission slip and t-shirt order form for the 2nd Grade Circus, please return that to school as soon as possible! Also, if you would like to order Spring Pictures, please return those by Wednesday April 11.
This week in reading, we revisited Comparing and Contrasting parts of a story. We will continue to work on this at the beginning of next week. Next week, we will begin discussing author's purpose.
We wrapped up our study of Solid Figures and Plane Shapes in math this week. The pictures below shows our math stations we did on Thursday and Friday. We created Shape Creatures, used different shapes to fill a hexagon, and designed Space Creatures out of Solid Figures. Today we started discussing Congruent Figures and even played a game of Simon Says "Slide, Flip, Turn." We will continue this next week when we talk about symmetry.
In Social Studies, we finished discussing our ancestors. It has been fascinating to see what countries our ancestors are from. We also started sharing our time lines today. Everyone really enjoyed seeing photos of their friends as babies! If your child didn't turn theirs in today, it needs to be turned in on Monday! Next week in Science, we will begin studying the Earth's surface. More information will be coming soon about upcoming projects and activities.
On Thursday, our class planted flower seeds for Concord's School Garden.
Mr. Loos, our P.E. teacher, is planning this beautiful new space for our school. The garden will be located near the pavilion, in the grassy area behind the library. We will be nurturing our plants in the classroom until they are ready to be planted in the ground later in the spring. You can see photos of us planting our seeds below!
I am so thrilled to be working with this class. We are having a blast and learning a lot! Please don't hesitate to contact me any time with questions!
